Typical Wiring Applications

Distributed Video - view a TV program, video cassette, laser disk, or satellite broadcast from any room in the home. Monitor the baby cam or security camera from any room. Rated at 1 GHz.

High Speed Data Services - Category 5 twisted pair wiring to be used for modems, ISDN or in-home computer network. Rated up to 100 Mb/s, this is a must for home offices.

CEBus Ready - Wire appliance locations for standard in-home communications protocols such as CEBus. CEBus is the Electronic Industries Association Consumer Electronics Bus standard for home control.

Distributed Infrared Remote Control - infrared remote control of entertainment equipment, lights and appliances from any room in the house.

Fiber Optic - virtually unlimited bandwidth for video, voice, or data.

A typical "future proof" wiring package would include wiring for the following rooms: family room, home office, bedrooms, living room, den and kitchen. If you want, you could even wire bathrooms for video and telephone. Each location would be equipped with dual coax (RG6) for video or audio and 4 twisted pair (category 5) for data or infrared.  A room may have more than one set of connections to allow flexibility in arranging the room and locating equipment. The unused connections would not be connected to the distribution panel unless and until needed. You should wire as many locations as possible, but not all locations will be connected to the system at one time.
